this n that

The Kentucky Derbys winning Jockeys reaction to winning the Derby was priceless. I'm glad he won!

I planted my pumpkin and cantelope seeds yesterday. Crossing my fingers that I actually get some pumpkins this year.

Charlie the new pup is doing horrible with his potty training. He pees and poops everywhere. He's a cute little guy and loveable but I'm about ready to give him to a foster family.

The census at work keeps dropping. Grapevine has it that we will be closed in 6 months. I'm gonna ride it out and see what happens.

Don't give him any treats for awhile.

Get some "Nature's Miracle". When you can't catch him in the act. Clean the mess with Nature's Miracle.

When you do catch him in the act. Scare him with as loud a yell as you can let out "NO!!!!!" grab him and immediately take him outside (whether he finished or not). If he goes more outside throw him a party. Jump up and down and say GOOD BOY! and give him the best treat possible (bacon, hot dog, cheese, peanut butter).

Give him regular access to go. First thing in the am, every couple of hours. Every time he goes throw him a party. For a couple months (eventually his need for a party will go away).

If you're leaving him along during the day, you need to get a crate, some baby gates, and some doggie pee pads and confine (with the baby gates) him to a 10 x 10 area with his crate in it, but open so he can go in and out. Leave the pads outside of the crate and hope he uses them.

There's nothing you can do to punish him after the fact. Don't bother getting mad at him. It won't help. Just be sure to give him such a big party when he goes in the right place, he won't want to go anywhere else.

Puppy's are tough, but don't give up. And just be resolved with the fact that you are going to have to clean up messes and probably have your carpets professionally cleaned after he gets past this phase.
